Norman Dale
Ollie McLellan
The coach of Hickory Fork, Norman tells Ollie that he is going to do something that he thinks he can never do.
What is the job of a coach?
“A coach is someone who tells you what you don’t want to hear, who has you see what you don’t want to see, so you can be who you have always known that you could be.” - Tom Landry.
I’m sharing this with you today because we are celebrating Father’s Day.
Being a Father is much like being a Coach and being a Coach is much like being a Prophet.
18 Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained,
But happy is he who keeps the law.
In Bible times, the nation of Israel depended on the prophets to tell them what God’s will was.
The prophets would receive “special revelation” from God, and then announce what was learned to the rest of the nation. (Ezekiel, Daniel, Zechariah)
The prophets would experience dreams at night from God at times, but mainly, God would communicate with prophets while they were awake. Prophets would receive a vision from the Lord.
Vision - Communication from a heavenly being towards an earthly recipient.
God would send a message to individual person with a larger group of people in mind.
Not just to be heard, but communicated to people for their spiritual, physical, and emotional well being.
When the season was on the line for Hickory Fork, the players had to look to one man to help get everyone together and focused. Norman Dale would take on that responsibility and was willing to take the hit from outside opinions to protect his players. That’s what a leader does.
In our modern day, who are we looking at to provide the vision for our future?
Who will point us in the right direction?
Why is everything so messed up right now?
Dads — Families — Churches — Towns — Counties — States — Countries — World
Everything will take shape when there are men of vision over families.
Why?
1. When left to our own decisions, we will fail.
1. When left to our own decisions, we will fail.
“Unrestrained” or “perish” means to “break loose”, “let ones hair down”.
People are deprived of moral restraints.
Solomon wrote that the general population depended on the word of God to know how to act and live.
A common theme in the bible is “God establishes, man controls, man fails, God restores.”
Exodus, Judges, Kings, Church (Acts-Revelation)
Fathers are responsible for the spiritual leadership of their home.
When God’s marching orders aren’t communicated, the troops will begin to get restless and go somewhere else.
Fathers are needed to communicate God’s word to the family.
General Revelation
Hearing from God through means that have already been established.
The scriptures are you #1 source for general revelation.
Fathers are called to dive deep into the word of God and communicate with family.
Read to their children
Share devotionals “Love Does For Kids”
Pray over children.
Realize that these principles are your responsibility to communicate.
Men of vision will seek the word of god in order to communicate to their families that God has set a standard of living as well as God’s love for them.
Get in the word and start reading it with expectation.
2. Families move forward with vision.
2. Families move forward with vision.
1 Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord before Eli. And word from the Lord was rare in those days, visions were infrequent.
Samuel was born toward the end of the Judges era. At that time, there no men who were seeking the Lord in order to point out the way for Israel.
The greatest failures in history occur in eras where there is no vision.
Vigilant people who hear from the Lord are desperately needed.
When churches are asked why they do what they do, what is their usual answer? “We’ve just always done this...”
Is our culture surrounded by people communicating God’s purpose? How about the family?
Too many men are passing the buck instead of letting the buck stop with them.
We let our personal issues get in the way.
Dad’s we are to seek “Special Revelation” from God.
Hearing from God directly.
Figuring the gifting of our family members and championing their efforts.
Allow the Lord to shows us the way into our children’s hearts.
Learning how to grow personally.
If God is not driving the Father’s heart, the family will go nowhere . We need men who are seeking the Lord and want to lead.
21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.
22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;
24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.
25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.
James
Eating a fruit or vegetable from the grocery store compared to eating a fruit straight off the vine.
There is truly no comparison.
Instead of growing our own garden, society is just getting their truth from the store.
The problem with getting your truth from the store is that you don’t know the source of where you’re getting your food.
It might feel easier in the short term, but the long term is a generation who isn’t being fed.
Dads, are we growing a garden for our family?
Learning our role as a man of vision is the most important aspect of leading our family.
21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

Dad’s stand up..
These are your leaders!
